National High School Coaches Association Names Sycamore High School’s (Ohio)

Jake Foster

Senior Boys’ Swimming Athlete of the Year

April 17, 2019 – Easton, PA - The National High School Coaches Association (“NHSCA”) is pleased to announce Jake Foster of Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, Ohio as its National Senior Boys’ Swimming Athlete of the Year.

Foster’s scholastic career came to a close by winning four gold medals at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I state championships. Jake set state records in the preliminaries, notching Ohio's best times in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke before capturing gold later in the day in both events. His third and fourth golds came in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays where he teamed-up with his younger brother Carson, who is a top-rated junior. Combined the brothers won eight gold medals and shared the meet’s Outstanding Swimmer Award.

Foster, who will attend the University of Texas on a scholarship, is a member of the USA Junior National team. Last summer, as part of the Mason Manta Rays swim team, he competed in the USA Swimming Phillips 66 Junior National Championships in Irvine, California, and earned the right to be a member of Team USA competing in the Junior Pan Pacific Games in Fiji, where he brought home a silver medal in the 400-meter individual medley. Foster is also a Scholastic All-American.

“Jake is an excellent example what this award stands for,” said Eric Hess, Executive Director of the NHSCA.  “He has excelled as much in the classroom as he has on the court. We congratulate Jake on an outstanding high school career and wish him success at the University of Texas.”

Foster is the second Ohio student-athlete to win the NHSCA Senior Boys’ Swimming Athlete of the Year Award. Austin Staab of Westerville High School won the award in 2007.

Throughout April, the NHSCA will be announcing the 2018-2019 Athlete of the Year honorees in 20 boys’ and girls’ sports. This marks the 20th consecutive year the NHSCA has honored achievers within the high school athletic community nationwide.
